Places we love nearby
The Blue Ridge Parkway
One of our favorite scenic drives is getting to and driving on the BRP. Highway 268 will take you from Kanuga through the cute mountain town of Brevard and up past Looking Glass Falls and Sliding Rock. These are both accessible and beautiful waterfalls. Continue on 268 and after the Cradle of Forestry you will be given the choice of turning North or South on the BRP. North will take you towards Asheville and South towards Balsam Grove but either way will be a visual delight. Pull over at every lookout and take it all in.
DuPont State Recreational Forest
DuPont is only 15 min from Kanuga and has 86 miles of trails on 10k protected acres including many waterfalls and a covered bridge. DuPont is certainly Grizzy approved.
FAQs
What will we do this weekend?
Kanuga is all about refreshing your soul in a way that resonates with you. As a group and individuals we will have the opportunity to explore the 1400 acres through hiking, mountain biking & forest bathing. There are many porches where you can grab a rocking chair and take in the surroundings along with a good book.
What should I wear?
Throughout the weekend you should be comfortable in your wardrobe. The weather could range between 40F and 70F. Expect cool nights and pleasant days which could always include April showers. The wedding ceremony will include a walk around the lake so keep that in mind with your footwear. Ryan will not be wearing a tie on Sunday so feel free to do what feels right to you.
What will we eat?
We will eat most of our meals in the dining hall at a few communal tables. Meals are served buffet style and always include vegetarian options.
Breakfast - 8am
Lunch - 12pm
Dinner - 6pm
What kind of stuff can I
find @ Kanuga?
Kanuga has a library, gym & bookstore with local goods and refreshments. There is a bog adjacent to the lake known as an Appalachian Mountain Bog. It is home to many plant and animal species that live in few other places. Pictured above is the Mountain Sweet Pitcher Plant found almost exclusively at Kanuga.
Where can I get coffee?
There is always coffee available during meal times. Between these times you can find urns in the lobby and a machine on the 1st floor of the inn. Each cabin has a small coffee maker if you would like to bring your own. Looking for a dirty chai latte? Head to the Flat Rock Village Bakery. It is our fav for awesome coffee and delicious pastries.
Where can I buy tchotchkes?
Besides the Kanuga gift shop you can venture into Hendersonville, Flat Rock or Brevard. These are all great towns full of local goods. One of our particular loves is The Wrinkled Egg in Flat Rock which is attached to the previously mentioned coffee shop.
